Ivy Tech Community College Sees a Decrease in Enrollment in Central Indiana This Fall

Fall enrollment at Ivy Tech Community College has dropped 12 to 13% in its Central Indiana Service Area compared to last fall.

Sue Ellspermann, the president of Ivy Tech Community College, said the decrease isn’t due to just one category of students, but first-time students are among those that have seen a decrease in enrollment. Enrollment has also decreased for non-traditional students, who are often working adults, according to Jeff Fanter, vice president for marketing and communications at Ivy Tech.

“Many times, they are that frontline worker who’s been working in the grocery store or the warehouse jobs, trying to go back to school,” Ellspermann said. “They may have been laid off. They may have fewer hours. They probably have children at home or others to be responsible for. And they are the ones that have the most at-risk, and they are the ones who are really questioning their decision.”
