The Peralta Community College District is in financial trouble and will need “enhanced monitoring” by its accreditors, who found the district and its four East Bay colleges achieving the lowest possible score on tests of fiscal health, The Chronicle has learned.
The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges gave the $150 million college district of 50,000 students until Dec. 14 to submit a plan for “improving your institution’s financial health,” according to a Nov. 20 letter from Stephanie Droker, a vice president at the commission. The letter said failure to comply would result in “formal action.”
Although the commission has the power to revoke accreditation and shut down a college, it can also issue formal warnings and take other interim steps.
