Tennessee Governor Makes Scholarships Next Priority

Gov. Bill Haslam recently turned to a group of community college officials for advice on how to use his final budget to improve Tennessee’s low graduation rates.

“If you were the governor of your state where would you spend more money in higher education?” Haslam asked a few dozen gathered at the National Council of State Directors of Community Colleges conference last week.

They answered with near uniformity: Advising and other services that put students face-to-face with people who can help them.
