College Deals with 20% Enrollment Drop

DANVERS — Full-time enrollment at North Shore Community College has dropped by more than 20 percent over the last five years, forcing the college to shrink its workforce and re-evaluate its programs.

NSCC President Patricia Gentile said the combination of a decline in the college-age population and an improving economy has led to an enrollment drop of nearly 1,200 full-time students since 2011.

“When adults can find work, they have less time to go to school,” she said.
