Colleges Warn “Promise” Students of Scams

BLOUNTVILLE, TN (WJHL) – Local community colleges are warning students about a scam that targets Tennessee Promise applicants.

Northeast State Community College administrators told News Channel 11, several potential students received calls and emails from scammers.

The scammers asked for student’s social security numbers and credit card information.

Northeast State’s County and State Scholarship Coordinator Josh Johnson said the scam particularly targets Tennessee Promise students who are submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (also known as FAFSA) for the first time.
