Enrollment Up Under N.Y. Free Tuition Offer

ALBANY — New York’s public colleges and universities are seeing a stark rise in applications this winter, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo attributes the increase to the state’s new free tuition program, which rolled out this past summer.

At the State University of New York, four-year schools have seen a 9 percent rise in applications compared to this time last year. SUNY community colleges, meanwhile, have seen a 2 percent increase. City University of New York schools, which are all located in New York City, saw an 11 percent rise in applications.
