Lawmakers Question Consolidation

HARTFORD — Lawmakers share some of the same questions and concerns as faculty and students about a plan to merge the state’s 12 community colleges.

“Can they even be called community colleges,” asked Sen. Mae Flexer, D-Killingly, vice chairman of the Higher Education Committee of the state Legislature, during an afternoon long forum held at the state capital.

“It’s a little bit of an oxymoron,” state. Rep. Terrie Wood, R-Norwalk, said and questioned whether the consolidation will benefit the state.
