Michigan Free Speech Case Settled

Macomb Community College reached a settlement with a student group that filed a First Amendment complaint against the college in August after students — one of whom dressed as a T-Rex — were told by campus police that they were violating policy by publicly advocating for fossil fuels.

As part of the settlement, the college agreed that it will not enforce parts of its Student Right and Responsibility Handbook that require “advance permission for students to engage in expressive activities on campus,” according to an agreement in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Michigan.
