Punishing Our Colleges

Being a Floridian means accepting that our fair state, for all its sunshine and beauty, is perennially ranked among the worst in too many important categories. Mental health funding, wages, education spending, child well-being and public corruption are just some of the areas where Florida is ranked near the bottom among the 50 states.

So when it has a shining jewel like its community college system — which is arguably among the nation’s best, if not the best, based on annual ratings — of course you would think our political leaders would nurture it, promote it, do whatever they can to make sure it stays healthy and thriving.
