The fossils had been sitting there for millions of years, passed up by generations upon generations of geologists studying in Fremont County.
But last month, someone finally noticed them — and he was only interested in geology as a hobby.
Lakota Goebel, a welding student at Pueblo Community College’s Fremont Campus, discovered a rare trace fossil in Phantom Canyon this December as part of a field trip for his introductory geology class.
