Westmoreland College Evacuated After Chemical Leak

ALVERTON, Pa. — A community college and a business in western Pennsylvania were evacuated due to a chemical spill, but no injuries were reported, authorities said.

Officials in Westmoreland County said the leak at DNP Imagingcomm America Corp. in East Huntingdon Township was reported just before 1 p.m. Tuesday.

A county hazardous materials team and fire department crews were dispatched to the scene. The firm’s website says it is a manufacturer of thermal transfer ribbons for printers.

The Advanced Technology Center of Westmoreland County Community College is adjacent to the business. The college moved out its students and staff.

Spokeswoman Anna Marie Palatella told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that at least daytime classes were being canceled.
