Since its inception in 1998, Google has grown to one of the most powerful technology companies in the world. Now it is taking that influence directly to the classroom with an information technology program. The eight-month long, online certificate program, launched in January, aims to supply in demand IT workers for a growing industry.
According to the program’s website, Google partnered with online learning platform Coursera to make the certificate available at the cost of $49 per month. Additionally, the company said it has made financial aid available to 10,000-plus learners, provided scholarships through nonprofit organizations, and issued a $2.5 million grant to United Service Organizations to train military personnel. The website also noted that more than 25 community colleges have signed up with Google to offer academic credit for students enrolled in the certificate program.
