Couple Battles Obstacles to Education

It’s finals week at Lansing Community College, and the anxiety is palpable as the Coderre family eats a quick dinner of frozen cheese pizza.

Brenton Coderre, a 36-year-old military veteran, has just arrived home from a precalculus study session.

“I think I only retained 50 percent” of the semester’s material, he tells his wife, Susan Lynn, 38. “I’ve got some crunching to do” before the final exam.

Meanwhile, Lynn is headed out the door for her final in Nursing 201. Coderre wishes her luck as she kisses 4-year-old Theo and Emerson, who is 18 months.
