Dr. Minou Djawdan Spradley has recently been named vice president for academic affairs at the Southwestern Community College District in Chula Vista, California, effective March 1.

Prior to this new role, Spradley served as vice president of instruction at San Diego City College. She also served in other administrative roles at the college, such as dean of both City College’s School of Engineering Technologies, Mathematics, Sciences and Nursing and the School of Arts, Humanities, Languages and Communications.

“Southwestern College serves a population of students with unquestioned potential for whom studying at Southwestern College can make life- altering differences,” Spradley said. “Quality education is a right afforded to all of those who come through our doors.”

As the district’s vice president for academic affairs Spradley will monitor enrollment planning and creation of instructional programs at the college. In addition, she will serve as Southwestern College’s accreditation liaison office.

Spradley plans to tour Southwestern College’s four campuses and the Crown Cover Aquatic Center in the following months to learn and retain information about the school’s programs and services, according to the Imperial Beach, CA Patch.

“Spradley’s experience as a faculty member, department chair, dean and vice president give her the foundation to build upon our strengths and offer insight into our opportunities,” said Southwestern College president and superintendent Dr. Kindred Murillo. “Minou immigrated to the United States from Iran, bringing with her an experience that connects her to our students’ needs and experiences.”

“I am very excited to be serving Southwestern College as the vice president for academic affairs,” Spradley said. “Southwestern College serves a population of students with unquestioned potential for whom studying at Southwestern College can make life-altering differences. Quality education is a right afforded to all of those who come through our doors.”

Spradley received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Goucher College and a doctorate in biology from the University of California, Irvine.
