Former Instructor Sues Lane Community College

A former Spanish instructor at Lane Community College filed suit against the college on Monday, claiming LCC discriminated against her based on her ethnicity and fired her after she complained.

Maria Gutierrez, a Veneta resident who is representing herself, filed the lawsuit in Lane County Circuit Court. She is seeking at least $300,000 in damages.

Gutierrez, who said she is a Hispanic woman of Mexican descent, was hired by the college in 2004 to teach fashion design classes, the suit states. She began teaching Spanish classes the following year.
