Good-Bye Remedial Courses, Hello Co-Requisites

In 2017, the Texas Legislature passed House Bill 2223 mandating that all higher education institutions develop and implement corequisite courses for developmental education.

According to the Dana Center at the University of Texas at Austin, “Data strongly suggest that institutions see substantial gains in student success when students are placed in corequisite courses compared with those who entered in traditional remedial programs.”
