Help Our Kids Inc. Aids Foster Children

Cheila Vega stepped on Westfield State’s campus for the first time her junior year of high school. She knew the campus was right for her but the odds of going were against her.

Vega is one of almost 10,000 children in foster care in Massachusetts.

According to a study by Casey Northwest Alumni, about half of children in foster will dropout of high school, only 20 percent will go to college and less than 10 percent will graduate. Some have reported that the number of children in foster care to graduate college is as low as less than one percent.
