Michigan Parents Excited about Free College Plan

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Parents dropping off their children at Grand Rapids Public Schools Wednesday, Sept. 5, expressed excitement and relief about the Michigan Promise Zone designation and the potential for free college tuition.

Superintendent Teresa Weatherall Neal announced Tuesday, Sept. 4, that Grand Rapids was approved as one of the 15 Michigan Promise Zones.

“The scholarships would take a lot of pressure off parents and kids,” said Shontrae Lewis, as she dropped off two of her kids at Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Academy with their father.
