N.J. College Could Lose Accreditation

Essex County College has been placed on probation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and is in danger of losing its accreditation. It has until March 2018 to fix problems the commission found with matters of “institutional resources” and “leadership and governance.”

The college rapidly expanded in recent years but racked up a catalog of problems. During the past two years, the president and college attorney were fired along with 21 employees, $150,000 was stolen from the athletic department, and a disturbing lack of financial oversight came to light.
