Sussex County Community College officials are weighing the pros and cons of a new initiative announced by Gov. Phil Murphy that would offer free tuition to participating state community colleges for low-income students.
SCCC President Jon Connolly said Wednesday night that details of the Community College Innovation Challenge, a pilot program launched Tuesday, are still unclear and would need to be ironed out before the college makes any decisions.
“Our objective is to learn whether it makes sense for us to apply,” Connolly said, noting that resource allocation within the college and affordability for taxpayers in Sussex County are among the factors to consider before deciding to submit an application for the program.
