OUR OPINION: State needs more programs to ease college barriers

Education is the key for Mississippi to escape long decades of generational poverty.

And a big part of that strategy is providing pathways for working adults to return to school.

As CREATE Foundation President Mike Clayborne noted during the foundation’s Annual Meeting on Thursday, “the path to a bright future for Northeast Mississippi lies in improving the educational attainment of our citizens.”

Mississippi – and Northeast Mississippi in particular – has too many adults who have not reached their full potentials in school, a fact that limits their professional opportunities and depresses their incomes. On a macro level, that also limits the ability to attract more jobs to the state.
