Chabot-Las Positas Community College District Board of Trustees recently appointed Ronald P. Gerhard as the district’s interim chancellor.
After conducting a national search and interviewing three finalists for the position, the board of trustees decided to not appoint a permanent chancellor, according to Independent News.
Gerhard was not a candidate in the national search.
“We believe it is in the best interest of the district to name an interim chancellor at this time,” said Edralin J. “Ed” Maduli, board president. “Mr. Gerhard has a long history with the California Community Colleges and will help us stay the course until such time that we can launch another national search for a permanent chancellor.”
Gerhard will serve in this role until Aug. 22, 2020, or until the permanent position is filled.
Prior to his new role, Gerhard served as the district’s vice chancellor of business services, and has more than 18 years of experience working in community college administration.
Prior to joining the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District faculty, he was vice chancellor for finance and administration at City College of San Francisco, vice chancellor of finance and administration for the Peralta Community College District, chief business officer for the Compton Community District and a business manager for San Bernardino Valley College.
Before beginning his higher education career, Gerhard served in public accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant and in several statewide committees working to revise program funding, make recommendations on initiatives and has served on a dozen accreditation visits and peer review teams, according to his board bio.
Gerhard received a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from the University of Redlands and a Master of Business Administration degree in finance and accounting from the University of California.
Based in the San Francisco East Bay area, the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District annually serves 29,000 students through its two colleges – Chabot College and Las Positas College.
