Tennessee Reconnect lets adults go back to college for free. One woman’s story shows it may not be so easy.

Sheeteah Blair’s bleary, watery eyes focused on the accounting homework in front of her at a high-top table at Nashville State Community College.

She’s hunched over the book at about 7:30 a.m. in September. She’s been awake since before 4 a.m.

Sleep comes when Blair can manage it. A quick nap on the couch after a long day at work and school, for instance.

Sunday through Thursday are the worst days during the start of Nashville State’s fall semester.
