There is no equalizer more powerful in our society than an education. The employment rate for college graduates is two times that of nongraduates. College graduates earn on average an estimated $1.6 million in their lifetimes. While many San Diegans cannot afford to attend a four-year institution right out of high school, I believe there are many who would still take advantage of the opportunity to make a strong start on the path to equity — if the pathway were opened.
