CASTLETON, Vt. — The Vermont State Colleges are considering merging Johnson State College and Lyndon State College under one administration with two campuses.
The board of trustees approved the concept on July 21 that was proposed by Chancellor Jeb Spaulding.
Spaulding said that “a unification would protect the long-term viability and vitality of both campuses.”
Board chairwoman Martha O’Connor says possibly expanding opportunities for students, faculty and staff in a larger college community is worth serious consideration.
The board will vote on the proposal on Sept. 29 after receiving a report from Spaulding. If it’s approved, the unification would take place next July.
The plan calls for Johnson State College President Elaine Collins to become president of the unified college.
