Virginia Schools Face Cuts

Virginia’s public universities and community colleges will likely have to budget for a 7.5 percent decrease in state funding in the next fiscal year, according to a letter sent Tuesday from the governor’s office to public university presidents and chancellors.

The letter from Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s Chief of Staff Paul Reagan—obtained by The Roanoke Times through the Virginia Freedom of Information Act—instructs universities to begin preparing for a reduction in state funding, which mostly pays for personnel and general functions of a university.
