I’m going to make a few “duh” statements about Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients. As in:
- Well, duh, community-college enrollment is down 40 percent since the state Supreme Court ruled that DACA recipients must pay out-of-state tuition.
- Well, duh, those students are now scrambling to find scholarships to soften the blow of such a hefty cost increase.
- Well, duh, there aren’t enough scholarships to go around, even though several organizations and some colleges are doing their best to keep students enrolled.
- Well, duh, some DACA advocates are telling students to look for educational opportunities in states that are friendlier to them (though it appears many are simply taking time off here).
